Do you know that interior designers don’t live in a cool and stunning houses? That’s how it is! One of the most common myths about interior designers.

We all have visions of some kind of profession, especially when it comes to cooperating with (for example waiter in our favorite restaurant, or shop assistant in Zara, whatever). Or hire him (for example tax assessor or an interior designer ;)). This visions lead us to create an exaggerated image of reality (don’t worry, it’s quite natural process, because that’s how our brain works, we create visions and stories). Consequently we confirm it by looking at millions of Pinterest pins or Instagram photos and the time comes when we believe in this. In reality it’s not true.

This is the reason I have decided to debunk the three most common myths about interior designers.

First myth

All interior designers live in fabulous and stunnig houses.

Nope. All not at all. We are just humans living our lifes day by day in typical houses or apartaments (even in rental flat like me). We just don’t have enough time to design it as it should be done 😉

My typicaly day is like of the most people’s. I work between 6-10 hours a day depending on the tasks I have to do. After that, I pick up my daughter from school, we have a break with chocolate dònut and hot milk. Once we are done, I leave her at art school. By now I have a little bit of free time. So I decide to go to supermarket to buy forgotten creme fraiche and eggs , or I have doctor’s appointment postponed tenth time or just have a coffee and call my mother,… That’s right. Just a life of an interior designer.

I don’t generic either. Surely some interior designers has homes like this, the world is very big and there are millions of interior designers. At the same time, I confirm that a good design does not arise in one afternoon snack.

My tip: Don’t be a slave of your stereotype beliefs.

Second myth

It’s expensive to hire an interior designer.

Nope. Well, it depends on the type of project, type of works, type of space, needs of the owners, favorites of the owners, budget of the owners…

Interior design is a wide profession. If you really know your needs and wishes about your space, the better for your wallet 😉  Also better to make good decisions and than better to choose your type of project and cooperation with the interior designer ( if needed ;)).

Nowadays, in the age of the Internet, it is even easier to find a design service that suits your budget. You can be surprise, that one makeover project or consultation can have a the same price like one  dinner in the good restaurant.

My tip: The best way to know about pricing is just ask one 😉

Third myth

Interior designers push their own vision.

Nope. It is quite the opposite. The client’s vision is a priority. The truth is that we are not magicians either. The trick is to understand our clients’ needs and preferences as much as possible. To create a good project, not illusion. The entire project process includes not only skrawls, sketches, and drawings, but also meetings, texts, calls, checklists, etc. to keep the process moving in the right direction and always with the client’s vision in mind. Like I said before it is a priority.

My tip: Ask yourself: do I really need all of this? Please, do it often as possible. Believe me.

After all, if there is some idea that it’s not the best option for our client we are here to help.

What do you think about the interior designers myths? Do you also find myth about your profession? If so, I am curious which are the most common.

Comment below, I will read it with a curiosity.

Thanks.

See you around.
